Brazil deal: Book flights for as little as $293, but visa restrictions may change

DEALS - 10-03-2023

Brazil is to reimpose its visa rules for visitors from the United States, reversing a decision made in 2019 to promote tourism there.

Travelers from Australia, Canada, and Japan will also need a visa, as first reported by Reuters.
The decision will be announced by the Brazilian government on Thursday.

The Brazilian government found that the initiative didn't do much to significantly increase tourism in the country, despite the fact that Jair Bolsonaro's administration abolished visa entry requirements for Americans. The COVID-19 pandemic may have played a role in limiting the initiative's potential impact.

You can still travel to the area without having to pay a lot for airfare, though, as Brazil reinstates its visa requirement for visitors from the United States.
But, bear in mind that if you intend to travel to Brazil, you will likely need to allow yourself some time to apply for a visa.
A few spring and summer specials to Belo Horizonte are available from Copa Airlines, LATAM Airlines, and Avianca Airlines, with prices starting at $293.

From Boston, Miami, New York City, and Washington, D.C., you may fly to Belo Horizonte.
These prices are a bargain considering that a round-trip journey to the Brazilian city would normally set you back $900.

Basics of deals

Flight examples

While there is availability in March, Brazil's impending visa requirements could affect any last-minute plans, so be sure to allow yourself enough time to apply for a visa — it typically takes 10 business days for a visa to arrive, according to Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs — as it could take up to 10 business days to arrive.

Here are some examples of flights at a discount:

    • Copa: starting at $293 from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Tancredo Neves International Airport (CNF) (includes a layover in Panama City).

    • Avianca: Starting at $428 from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to CNF (includes a layover in Bogota, Colombia).

    • Avianca: Dulles International Airport (IAD) to CNF for as little as $514. (includes a layover in Bogota).

    • LATAM: Starting at $592, flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to CNF (includes a layover in Sao Paulo).

We advise utilizing Google Flights to find your ideal travel dates before making your reservations on the airline's website. If a flight is canceled, delayed, or the reservation is changed, direct airline tickets are more dependable.

Google Flights demonstrates what a great value the $293 round-trip fare from Miami to Belo Horizonte is as all other comparable flights are at least $800.

Copa offers three choices for round-trip flights that keep the cost at $293.

Additionally keep in mind that due to the existence of third-party booking websites, Google Flights occasionally displays lower fares than those that are published on the airline's website.

These discounts only apply to basic economy rates. For checked baggage, seat selection, and itinerary changes on Copa, costs apply.

Enhance your purchase

Use a card that earns bonus points on airfare purchases, like The Platinum Card® from American Express (5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel, on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year), Citi Prestige® Card (5 points per dollar on airfare), Citi Premier® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on airfare), American Express® Gold Card (3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel) or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (2 points per dollar on travel).

In conclusion

Brazil will reintroduce its visa entrance requirements, but this shouldn't prevent you from traveling there, especially when there are affordable flights available.
Even though some of these flights are priced so low in basic economy, you would still be saving a tonne even if you paid for checked bags and seats. Basic economy may be constrictive.
