Deal alert: round-trip flights from the West Coast to Hawaii are only $237.

DEALS - 19-07-2022

During the post-lockdown tourism boom, Hawaii has been one of the most well-liked travel destinations.
Hotels, rental vehicles, and island attractions are in high demand, and airfares have historically been extremely expensive.

United and Southwest have announced some new offers for travel from the West Coast to Hawaii in September and October as the calendar changes to the customarily slower autumn travel season.

If you book soon, round-trip prices from the West Coast that were once in the $775 level are now available for about $300.

Basics of deals

Basic economy flights for round-trip travel to numerous airports in Hawaii are available on United from the West Coast, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, starting at $237.

Keep in mind that United's Basic Economy does not offer seat assignments or allow for carry-on that are the full size.
Additionally, the mileage qualifying credits and bonuses are restricted.

United and Southwest airlines.

Routes: Between airports on the Hawaiian Islands and the U.S. West Coast.

Direct booking with the airline or through Google Flights.

September through October are the best months to go.

Flight examples

San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle airports on the West Coast offer these specials.
Hawaiian airports include Kona Airport (KOA) on the Big Island of Hawaii and Kahului Airport (OGG) in Maui.

For United, Basic Economy prices start at $237.
Remember that this is quite elementary.

Seat selections and the option to bring a full-sized carry-on bag or check a bag without paying an additional fee are not included in the pricing.
Additionally, it disallows you from changing your flight; instead, you must cancel and rebook, and you are also not eligible to receive the full amount of Premier qualifying credit.

Beware: If you reserve a Basic Economy seat and attempt to check a carry-on that is determined to be full size, you will be assessed a $25 "service charge" in addition to the standard $25 fee for checked bags.

For the same route, United charges $297 for economy class, which includes a full-sized carry-on and seat selections (but not checked baggage).

A sample deal with Southwest

Southwest provides comparable nonstop service from West Coast destinations, including the Oakland International Airport (OAK) route, to airports all throughout the Hawaiian island.

Southwest offers round-trip fares starting at $247 from Oakland to Kona International Airport (KOA) on the Big Island of Hawaii from late September through early October.

Although this trip includes both carry-on and checked baggage, it does not include reserved seating (like all Southwest flights).

Southwest flights could end up being hundreds of dollars less expensive if you're flying to Hawaii with luggage or with a party that wants to seat together.

Enhance your purchase

On expenditures of up to $500,000 made with The Platinum Card® from American Express (on flights booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel), you can earn 5 points for every dollar you spend.
When you purchase flights through Capital One Travel, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card will reward you with 5 miles for every $1 spent.
After spending your $300 yearly travel credit, you can earn 5 points for every dollar spent on flights through Chase Ultimate Rewards.

In conclusion

Over the past year, Hawaii has seen a big increase in tourists.
But with hotel and rental car rates skyrocketing (when they're even available), now would be a good time to book a flight for the fall in the hopes that those hotel and car rates will as well.

Compare the prices of the tickets you desire in full before you buy them, taking into account the cost of checked or even carry-on baggage.

By the time your flights are scheduled, what first appears to be a ticket on Southwest that is little more expensive ends up being significantly less expensive than a United fare with the amenities you want.
