Flight examples

Although there aren't many routes in this collection of cheap flights, there are possibilities from several smaller locations like Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Buffalo, New York.

Here are a few highlights:

    • JetBlue offers flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Guanacaste Airport (LIR) starting at $329.

    • Delta: Starting at $343 from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to LIR (includes a layover in Atlanta).

    • Delta offers flights from Dulles International Airport (IAD) to LIR for as little as $344. (includes a layover in Atlanta).

    • Alaska: Starting at $356, flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Juan Santamara International Airport (SJO).

    • Delta offers beginning fares of $386 from Nashville International Airport (BNA) to SJO (includes a layover in Atlanta).

    • American: Starting at $389 from Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD) to SJO (includes a layover in Dallas-Fort Worth).

We advise using Google Flights to find the best dates before making your flight arrangements.
Then, purchase your tickets through the airline's website because they are more dependable in the event of a flight cancellation, delay, or itinerary change.

Google Flights displays the Alaska trip priced at $356 as the least expensive choice for a flight from Los Angeles to San Jose on September 17.
On the same day, Delta also provides a ticket to San Jose, but it costs $396 more.

Although it may be a little inconvenient, Alaska has a trip that leaves San Jose at 1:30 in the morning on September 24 if you're returning to Los Angeles a week later. This keeps the cost at $356.

Only the basic economy option is included in all of the tickets offered on these discounted flights.
In this instance, Alaska's Saver option, which does not offer seat selection, is considered basic economy.
The Saver price passengers are the last to board and are also unable to change their flights.
As a result, if your aircraft is crowded, you can also run into trouble with an empty overhead bin for your carry-on.

Despite these limitations, Google Flights considers this to be a low price for a trip to San Jose; typically, the cheapest flights to the capital of Costa Rica cost between $930 and $2,050.

Alaska does not allow its Saver customers to select a seat in the main cabin of the aircraft, despite the fact that some airlines' basic economy rates still allow you to do so for an extra fee.

Improving your purchase

Use credit cards that offer bonus points for booking flights, such as The Platinum Card® from American Express (5 points per $1 spent on flights booked directly with an airline or through American Express Travel, on up to $500,000 in purchases made with this card each calendar year), Citi Prestige® Card (5 points per $1 spent on flights), Citi Premier® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per $1 spent on flights), and American Express® Gold Card (3 points per $1 spent on flights when booked) (2 points per dollar on travel).

In conclusion

All things considered, it would be wise to book a flight to Costa Rica right away, especially if you want to visit a place with beaches and sunlight.

Even though basic economy can be constrictive, many of these flights are discounted by almost 50%, so it's unquestionably a worthwhile alternative if you're wanting to save money on travel.
Simply make sure to reserve these tickets as soon as you can because travel costs might fluctuate regularly, and you don't want to lose out on a deal.
