Fly to Europe for 9,000 Amex points when you combine Flying Blue Promo Rewards with a transfer incentive.

DEALS - 02-09-2022

However, few promotions are as dependable as the Promo Rewards we receive from Air France-KLM Flying Blue each month.
These specials, which frequently appear on the Flying Blue website, provide a discount on travel to and from particular cities or regions.
There is a predetermined travel window and all discounts are only bookable through the end of the month.

Economy flights from the United States to Europe are currently available for as little as 11,250 Flying Blue miles, which may be transferred easily from a variety of transferable points schemes.

Even better, you can combine this with the 25% American Express Membership Rewards transfer bonus to Flying Blue, which reduces the price to to 9,000 points plus taxes and fees.

The deal

Airlines: KLM and Air France.

Routes to and from Europe include those via the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York (JFK), the O'Hare International Airport in Chicago (ORD), the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

Prices: Vary by airport.
the cheapest route in economy class is 11,250 miles one way (to/from JFK), while the most costly route is 22,125 miles one way (to/from SEA).
Starting at 51,000 miles (to/from AUS), transatlantic business class travel is possible.

Travel will occur between September 1, 2022, and February 28, 2023.
From Nov. 1, 2022, through Feb. 28, 2023, depart from LAX.

Pay the taxes and fees with one of the following cards: Citi Premier® Card (3 points per dollar on travel), Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on travel), American Express® Gold Card (3 points per dollar on travel when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel), or The Platinum Card® from American Express (5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel, on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year) (2 points per dollar on travel).

Between North America and Europe, promotional rewards

This month, there are inexpensive economy award flights available from four North American airports to numerous European locations, with round-trip distances starting at just 11,250 miles.
The most affordable awards depart from New York, but there are also announced economy packages departing from Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

A discounted business-class reward is also available from Austin.
These flights begin at 51,000 miles, as was mentioned.
To reserve this award, you simply need to transfer 41,000 Membership Rewards points using the current Amex transfer incentive.

Keep in mind that Flying Blue adjusts the cost for award tickets frequently, so you might need to be flexible with your departure dates to find the best deals.
In addition, certain places could be more expensive than others.
One way airfare from Austin to Milan, for instance, is 53,625 miles.

Flying Blue miles are worth 1.2 cents each, so you can book a round-trip economy journey to Europe for less than $300, which is a fantastic price.
The low taxes and fees on Flying Blue flights are a drawback, so before making a reservation, compare the total award cost to the price of a cash ticket.

These Promo Rewards tickets are good for travel until February 28 but must be reserved by September 30.
There is a modified rebooking policy for Promo Rewards, which you can read about here, even though they typically "cannot be amended, canceled, or refunded."

Again, by utilizing the 25% transfer incentive, you can reduce the price of these tickets to just 9,000 Membership Rewards.
Just keep in mind that you can only transfer in 1,000 point increments.
The transfer bonus expires on September 30.

How to make a reservation

On the websites for Air France or KLM, purchase Promo Rewards tickets.
Simply sign in to your account and select "Book with Miles" from the menu on the homepage.
Next, enter the itinerary of your choice and press the red search button.

This month's lowest option, New York, had plenty of availability when I looked there.
You can purchase this flight for just 9,000 Membership Rewards thanks to Amex's transfer incentive.

You should always move points over with specific dates in mind if you intend to use them to reserve an award, so identify award space first before transferring your points.

Getting Flying Blue mile rewards

Fortunately, since the program partners with all of the major transferable points currencies, increasing your Flying Blue balance is simple.

Points from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Rewards can be transferred at a 1:1 ratio.
Additionally, Marriott points can be transferred at a 3:1 ratio with a bonus of 5,000 miles for every 60,000 points transferred.

Amex is presently giving members who transfer their Membership Rewards to Flying Blue a 25% transfer bonus, as was already reported.
Transfer bonus expires on September 30.

Our tests indicate that Amex, Capital One, Chase, and Citi transfers ought should post right away.
The test transfer from Marriott, however, took three days to reach our Flying Blue account, so sadly that wasn't the case.
In other words, if you want to make a quick reservation, your best bet is to use credit card points.

Enhance your purchase

Don't forget to pay taxes and fees on your award ticket using a card that earns extra points on airfare transactions.
Some of the best cards are Citi Premier (3 points per dollar on travel), Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on travel), American Express Gold Card (3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel), The Platinum Card from American Express (5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel, on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year), or Chase Sapphire Preferre (2 points per dollar on travel).
