Fortunately, from January to March, you can get flights to Portugal for as little as $381 if you're an American wishing to travel to this beautiful part of Europe.

Particularly, you can get inexpensive flights from many different locations in the U.S., ranging from major cities like New York to smaller ones like Memphis, to the cities of Lisbon, which serves as the capital of Portugal, and Porto.

Purchase your tickets as soon as you can because these low prices are only anticipated to persist for a few days.

Flight examples

With so many flights being offered at a discount, the New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C., regions tend to have the lowest prices.
You may travel there for less than $400.
Otherwise, the prices for flights departing from the South, the Midwest, or the West Coast are typically under $600.
Additionally, a lot of the trips have at least one layover.

Here are a few flights that caught our attention:

    • Aer Lingus: Flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) start at $381 (includes a layover in Dublin).

    • TAP: Starting at $382, flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO).

    • Starting at $423, Aer Lingus offers flights from O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to LIS (includes a layover in Dublin).

In order to find the best dates for your flights, we advise using Google Flights, followed by direct reservations with the airline of your choosing.
In the event of a delay, cancellation, or change to a reservation, airlines are more trustworthy.

The least expensive alternative, per Google Flights, is a TAP flight on February 23 from Newark to Porto.
It departs from Newark at 12:15 a.m. and lands in Porto at 11:55 a.m. on this trip, which is a red-eye alternative.

At a cost of $396, TAP provides two options for getting back to Newark: one departs Porto at 10 a.m. and the other at 4 p.m.
There is a stopover in Lisbon for both return flights.

There may be price differences between Google Flights and the airline's website because Google Flights also compiles third-party booking choices.
Google Flights claims that the tariff for this particular journey is $375, however if you were to book directly with TAP, the price would be significantly more.
(Google Flights indicates that TAP charges $401, although the website indicates that the ticket is approximately $382.)

These reduced airfares to Portugal are all for basic economy.
Passengers who purchase a TAP Discount fare are only permitted to bring a carry-on bag; all extra add-ons, such as seat preference and checked baggage, require payment.

Seat selection for a flight to Porto begins at $45, and the most luxurious and spacious seats on the plane cost $72.
The least expensive seats on returning flights are $14.

A second bag will cost an additional $105 in addition to the additional $80 for checking your first bag.
If you only have one suitcase, checking it to and from Porto will cost you a total of $160.

Enhance your purchase

Use credit cards that offer rewards when making airfare purchases, such as The Platinum Card® from American Express (5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel, on up to $500,000 in purchases made on these cards in a single calendar year), Citi Prestige® Card (5 points per dollar on airfare), Citi Premier® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on airfare), and American Express® Gold Card (3 points per dollar on airfare when booked direclty with the airline) (2 points per dollar on travel).

In conclusion

It's a perfect time to book your flights to Porto and Lisbon because so many airlines have reduced their prices for the winter of 2023.

While avoiding the throngs of tourists who come during the warmer months, you can explore the castles of Lisbon or enjoy several port wines in Porto.
Portugal offers a variety of activities, so purchase these tickets as soon as possible before seats are all taken and costs rise.
