For $400 or less, go to Madrid and possibly add a protracted layover to explore another city.

DEALS - 26-07-2022

Are you considering Spain for next year?
For travel to Madrid in the first quarter of 2023, you might wish to look at these offers.

The cost of a round-trip ticket to Madrid is about $400 between January and April 2023.
The package includes flights from a number of eastern American cities.

Have you made plans for your spring break destination yet?
Madrid might be a fantastic destination or starting point for a spring break because of its amazing cuisine, culture, and lodging options, not to mention its function as a gateway to other parts of Spain.

There are many itineraries that only require a quick layover, but you may also choose an itinerary that allows you to spend more time in a different destination, allowing you to see two places for the price of one, such as Keflavik, Iceland, or Lisbon, Portugal.

Many of us are still in holiday mode for the summer, either planning or recovering from a trip, but as always, planning early can help you save a lot of money.

Deal Fundamentals

TAP and Play Airlines

Boston, Miami, New York, and Washington, D.C., as well as flights to Madrid

Travel period: from January to April 2023

Direct booking with the airlines or using Google Flights are the two options.

Flights to Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) during the first few months of 2023 cost about $400 roundtrip, which is a significant discount from the typical cost of a roundtrip ticket to Europe.

The majority of the reduced flights are operated by the Portuguese airline TAP, thus both the departure and return routes will include stops in Lisbon.
Having said that, you should have the option to choose, based on your trip dates, whether you want a brief, medium, or lengthy layover in Lisbon, including a day or two in the city, as you make your reservation.
For each scenario, there are itineraries available.

Additionally, the budget airline Play, which departs from Iceland, may offer some choices.
There are options to spend some time, possibly a sizable amount of time, in Iceland during your vacation to Spain at no additional expense because the airline offers flights between the U.S. and Keflavik Airport (KEF) as well as Keflavik to Madrid.

Here are a handful of the routes and costs we discovered:

    • Boston to Madrid for $392 on Play, with a two-day stay in Keflavik.

    •  Newark to Madrid for $397 on TAP.

    •  Washington to Madrid for $391 on TAP.

    • Miami to Madrid for $407 on TAP.

Let's start by looking at a route leaving the New York region.
TAP can transport you away from Newark/Liberty International Airport (EWR).
I looked at an option here that takes you there and back the quickest, while there are plenty that will put you in Lisbon for a day or two.

After an almost two-hour stay in Lisbon to make a connection, you'll fly the following morning to Lisbon before continuing on to Madrid.
On the way back, you'll depart Madrid in the mid-afternoon, and after a layover in Lisbon that lasts three and a half hours, your flight over the Atlantic will get you back to Newark shortly after 11:00 p.m. Eastern time.

I discovered relatively brief layovers in Lisbon between Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Madrid for travelers leaving the Washington, D.C., region.
The total cost for the trip is $391.
You'll take a night flight to Europe and arrive back at Dulles quite late that evening, around 9:00 p.m.

The flight to Europe from Miami is a little bit longer.
You'll depart earlier in the day for the nighttime travel across the Atlantic; the flight will take place at 4:25 p.m.
After the 90+ minute break in Lisbon, you arrive in Madrid in the middle of the morning.
On the way back, your stop in Lisbon takes about three hours.

If you're up for a more ambitious agenda, here's a fascinating choice in the interim.
You'll fly overnight to Keflavik, Iceland, on Play, leaving Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), arriving in the wee hours of Saturday. The flight will take place in March.
Then, until Monday afternoon, you'll have little over 58 hours in Iceland.
You'll then return to the airport to fly to Madrid.

On the return leg of your trip, you must make another, shorter stop in Iceland, despite your natural inclination to want to avoid such a stop.
You won't be able to go sightseeing in the same way as on your trip out.
You arrive in Keflavik at 1:10 a.m. local time and have until your flight back to Logan takes off in the late afternoon.

Still, it's a great way to see numerous locations for the price of one for a round-trip base fee of $392.
Just be careful while packing your things because they might be harder to collect during your stopover in Iceland since you're theoretically on your way out.

In conclusion

There are many alternatives right now for early 2023 travel to Madrid, whether you want to visit another city en route or simply explore Spain and all it has to offer.
Given that round-trip domestic airfare in 2022 has frequently exceeded $300, finding a journey to Europe for less than $400 feels like a golden opportunity.
