O Canada! flights from the US for less than $100 round-trip

DEALS - 01-09-2022

Traveling to Canada in the fall is fantastic, especially when prices for flights are falling along with the foliage.
Several airlines are providing specials from U.S. airports to Canada during the normally slow fall travel period.

The most affordable round-trip flights are from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) for $93, from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) for $181, from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to Toronto for $231, and from New York cross-country to Vancouver for $287.

Deals are being offered by Air Canada, JetBlue, and low-cost airline Flair.
Expect to see several airlines reduce their rates on well-traveled flights between the U.S. and Canada.

Before making a reservation, carefully review the terms and restrictions of any itinerary as some of these costs are for basic economy tickets that incur additional surcharges, even for carry-on luggage.

Details and restrictions on these flight specials are in the following paragraphs.

Basics of deals

Airlines: Flair, JetBlue, Air Canada, and others.

Routes: To Toronto, Vancouver, and other Canadian cities from U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

How to book:
Do a search on Google Flights and then make a direct flight reservation.

Dates of travel: from October 2022 to April 2023, except holidays.

As long as there are still reduced tickets available.

Flight examples

Here are just a few of the many cities and airlines currently offered, given the large choices of cheap tickets to Canada this fall.
Here are some of the most well-traveled air routes, including New York and Chicago to Toronto and Los Angeles and New York to Vancouver.
Additionally, you can get great prices on flights from Atlanta, Chicago, and Denver.

There are numerous open dates for these routes from September through December, and there are options for different times of day.
However, during the busiest travel times around Thanksgiving and the end of the year, there are very few, if any, reduced seats accessible.

While prices for these flights start at about $93 per person, be aware that many low-cost options do not include free carry-on baggage (other than a small personal item).
Fees for one way travel might reach $50.
Therefore, spend some time weighing your options while traveling the same route, accounting for luggage charges.

Many of these flights provide amazing bargains even with bag costs.
Choose the most convenient dates for you, carefully read the fine print before making a reservation, and you're ready to travel to the north.

New York to Toronto

Discount airline Flair Airlines offers the lowest rates to Canada.
Flair offers flights to Toronto, Vancouver, and other Canadian cities from airports in New York, Los Angeles, and other American cities.
The below-$100 rate is less than half what regular flights along this route typically cost.

However, neither carry-on nor checked baggage are included with this fundamental Flair Airlines ticket.
For this itinerary, purchasing one of Flair's "bundle" luggage deals will cost an extra $50 round-trip, but it also includes a checked bag.

On a few dates from November to April, Flair offers reduced rates between New York and Toronto, with some round-trip costs as low as $86 in January.

The cost is an incredible value if you can fly with just a personal bag, perhaps for a weekend getaway.
However, if you bring luggage, the savings are quickly lost.

New York to Vancouver

This fall, JetBlue is another airline that is providing cheap flights to Canada.
This nonstop cross-country travel from JFK to Vancouver costs only $287, making it one of its finest offers.
An average round-trip flight for this route costs over $400, with peak times seeing prices as high as $600.

The Blue Basic fare class, for which this sample ticket is intended, does not permit carry-on luggage or seat preference.
You can choose your "free" seat and have one "free" carry-on bag for an additional $38 per trip.

The flight is still affordable compared to regular tickets for a nonstop flight of this distance, even with the carry-on extra.

Los Angeles to Vancouver

This fall, Flair Airlines also has some flight specials to the West Coast.
This hypothetical $181 trip represents a savings of roughly $100 compared to regular non-holiday flight prices between Los Angeles and Vancouver.
However, a carry-on bag, which can cost $50 or more each segment and negates the majority of the savings compared to flights on the big airlines, is not included in Flair's basic ticket.

Both Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are providing $271 basic economy rates for this itinerary, which include a carry-on bag.
It makes sense to skip the Flair tickets if you want to optimize your miles on your preferred legacy carrier, especially if you're bringing any luggage.
The $271 prices are still less expensive than standard United and Delta flights on this route (and are now $92 less expensive than Air Canada tickets on this route).

The Flair Airlines round-trips between Los Angeles and Vancouver can be a wonderful deal if you can afford to travel with just a personal item (or perhaps share carry-on bag space and fees with a partner). Some January prices are as low as $136.

Chicago to Toronto

In the example November schedule above, Air Canada participates in the fall airfare sale with $231 tickets between Chicago and Toronto.
The price of flights on this route typically increases by $100 to $200 during the summer and on holidays.
These Air Canada Chicago to Toronto tickets do provide a good reduction off usual prices — and with one free carry-on luggage — however they are not as shocking as the Flair under-$100 deals.

Even on routes where Flair's or JetBlue's basic rates seem to be significantly less expensive, it might be worthwhile to look into Air Canada flying options if you're taking bags on your vacation to Canada.
The super-discounted flight costs occasionally exceed those of the larger carriers when baggage fees are included.

Enhance your purchase

Use a credit card that offers extra points for buying plane tickets.
On up to $500,000 of these transactions per year, the Platinum Card® from American Express offers 5 points for every dollar spent on ticket booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel.

The American Express® Gold Card earns 3 points for every dollar spent on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel, compared to 2 points for every dollar spent on airfare with the Citi Premier® Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
For every dollar spent on travel, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card awards two points.

In conclusion

By purchasing a low-cost round-trip fare from the United States to Canada, you can profit from the sluggish travel season of the fall.
You have the freedom to organize a weekend escape, a longer trip to see Canada, or any combination thereof thanks to the abundance of cheap flights from numerous U.S. locations.
For shorter flights to Canada, rates under $200 are fantastic values, while fares under $300 are quite appealing for longer journeys.

While we've only highlighted a handful of the numerous cheap flights available here, you may use Google Flights to uncover more possibilities for your origin and destination and then book directly with the airlines.

Be advised that many of these affordable flights include tickets at the lowest level of economy, which may incur an extra price for carry-on luggage.
Consider carefully any additional fees before making a reservation and decide if the flight is good for you.
