After a 2-year break, free Singapore tours are back at Changi Airport.

At Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), airline passengers with lengthy layovers can once more take advantage of complimentary city tours to pass the time.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, free Singapore trips were suspended for two years.

The excursions, which were first offered in 1987 by Singapore Airlines, the Singapore Tourism Board, and Changi Airport Group, enable visitors with lengthy layovers to explore the local area for free.

The excursions were a successful tourist board ploy to draw in new people to the area, with about 30% of Changi passengers (during the pre-pandemic) being classified as in transit or transferring.

The executive vice president of air hub and freight development at Changi Airport Group, Lim Ching Kiat, confirmed the comeback by saying, "We are glad to bring [the tour] back with the resumption of travel."
The Free Singapore Tour is made to show off all Singapore has to offer to travelers that choose to transit or transfer at Changi Airport.

Before the 2019 break, the trips were taken annually by more than 800,000.
The City Sights Tour, the Jewel Tour, and the Heritage Tour were the three tours that ran during the time; all three have since been reinstated.
With the rebranding, a brand-new tour—the Changi Precinct Tour—was unveiled.

Every tour has a tad bit of a different flavor:

    • Including stops at Merlion Park and Jubilee Bridge, two of the city's attractions, the City Sights Tour exhibits Singapore's urban landscape.

    • The Jewel Tour comprises a specially crafted tour of Changi Airport, taking in numerous notable landmarks like the HSBC Rain Vortex, the highest indoor waterfall in the world.

    • The Heritage Tour is a compact, in-depth exploration of the local history and culture. The Civic District, Chinatown, and the Kampong Gelam district are all visited.

    • A residential town and a peaceful village stop on the new Changi Precinct Tour, which ends in Changi Beach Park and gives you a comprehensive view of Singaporean life.

There are plans to eventually give nine trips each day; tours currently last about 2 1/2 hours apiece. Travelers having at least 5 1/2 to 24 hours of spare time are advised to take the tours.

According to Chang Chee Pey, the assistant chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board marketing group, "We hope that the tour will motivate transit and transfer passengers to plan a longer stay to Singapore in [the] future, and experience much more of what our lively city has to offer."
