Alaska Airlines introduces a fast track for elite status for customers with expiring status.

NEWS - 21-12-2022

Alaska Airlines has your back if you are an MVP, MVP Gold, or MVP 75K elite member and won't requalify for your status before the end of the year.

The Seattle-based airline is offering a second chance to its elite members to maintain their existing statuses through December 31, 2023.

Specifically, Alaska will extend your 2022 status to the end of 2023 provided you achieve the aforementioned miles between January 13 and April 13.
To maintain your 2022 status beyond these three months, you must earn the following:

    • MVP members: 5,000 base miles.
    • MVP Gold members: 10,000 base miles.
    • MVP Gold 75K members: 20,000 base miles.

Who is eligible?

Mileage Plan members who have MVP, MVP Gold, or MVP Gold 75K status as of January 1, 2022, but who did not requalify for that level during the 2022 calendar year, are eligible for this offer.
Unfortunately, you cannot use this offer to advance beyond the status you held as of January 1, 2022.

Additionally, this promotion is not open to anyone who held Alaska status on January 1, 2022, as a result of a status match or challenge, and MVP Gold 100K status is not included.

Which Base Miles are Countable?

Members of the Mileage Plan who take advantage of this promotion can accrue base miles from flights operated by Alaska and its partners; however, in order to be eligible for a status extension, at least two segments must be traveled on flights that Alaska markets and operates.

Remarks about MVP Gold 75K

If you were an MVP Gold 75K member on January 1, 2022, but you won't requalify this year, Alaska will let you make Gold Guest Upgrades, Lounge Day Passes, and MVP Gold 75K MVP nominations if you accumulate the 20,000 base miles between January 13 and April 13, 2023.

The 50,000 extra miles and American Airlines upgrade certificates linked to earning MVP Gold 75K status are regrettably not available to members who receive MVP Gold 75K status as part of this promotion.

In conclusion

For Mileage Plan members who were set to downgrade or lose their privileges at the end of the year, this promotion is fantastic news.
However, given that airlines are already seeing large numbers of elite members as a result of years of status extensions and lowered qualification requirements, it can be frustrating for individuals who have already been requalified.
