American announces more long-distance flights for the summer of 2023

NEWS - 12-12-2022

American Airlines is already planning for the summer even though the snow is only just beginning to fall.

The carrier with its headquarters in Fort Worth released its summer 2023 itinerary on Friday.
Numerous established markets have their service expanded, and there are numerous resumptions as well.

Increased traffic on 4 routes

American will start adding extra flights on four long-distance destinations in April, including:

    • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).

    • DFW to Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO).

    • Miami International Airport (MIA) to Heathrow Airport (LHR).

    • MIA to Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).

Although American didn't disclose the exact number of extra flights it will add in each market, it's interesting to note that the airline has increased several of its "bread-and-butter" foreign routes.

The airline's biggest hub is Dallas-Fort Worth, and by adding more flights to Paris and Rome, it appears that the carrier anticipates high demand for some of Europe's most well-known destinations.

American will also increase service from Miami to London, which can provide a variety of connections to cities in Europe and around the world as London is the headquarters of its transatlantic joint venture partner British Airways.

Additionally, American's decision to increase its Sao Paulo service coincides with the airline facing more competition in its Miami hub, which has previously served as its entry point to Latin America.

More domestic and international service is now available in Miami thanks to Delta Air Lines' new joint venture collaboration with LATAM, and American Airlines is probably attempting to strengthen its position as the market leader in South Florida.

7 long-distance restarts

Additionally, American will resume service in seven long-haul locations, some of which have not been served since the beginning of the pandemic because of low demand and a backlog in aircraft deliveries.

The table below includes the whole list of resumes.

Only two of these seven routes—Dallas-Fort Worth to Tokyo and Charlotte to Paris—will actually restart service in the coming summer. According to Cerium

    From      To    Last Operated

   Charlotte Douglas International

    Airport (CLT).

    CDG.    Summer 2019
CLT.     Frankfurt Airport (FRA).    Summer 2021.
DFW.     Santiago de Chile Airport (SCL).    Summer 2021.
DFW.     Haneda Airport (HND).    Summer 2020.
Los Angeles International  Airport (LAX).     HND.    Summer 2020.
LAX.    Sydney Airport (SYD).    Summer 2021.
Seattle-Tacoma International  Airport         (SEA).    LHR.  Summer 2021.

Timetables, the other four have already started up again this winter.

However, Charlotte and Los Angeles-based flyers are undoubtedly very excited about these resumptions.

During the epidemic, American canceled a large number of its long-haul routes in Charlotte, and it is only now reconstructing the network.
Having more one-stop choices for traveling to well-liked European summer destinations because of this increased long-haul connectivity will be advantageous to both locals and those living close to Charlotte.

In contrast, American has reduced its long-haul presence in Los Angeles during the past few years.
It comes as the airline is hard at work creating a Oneworld Alliance mini-hub in Seattle, where American is teaming up with Alaska Airlines to expand its domestic and global service.

During the epidemic, American switched its Los Angeles to Shanghai service to Seattle and terminated a number of other long-haul flights from LAX.
(American had intended to start a sensational new route between Seattle and Bangalore, India, but those plans have been put on hold indefinitely due to the pandemic and the restriction of Russian airspace.)

Los Angeles will once more have access to two prestigious international flights, and American still maintains a hub there.

In a separate development, American will upgrade to a Boeing 787 Dreamliner this summer its current service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Anchorage, Alaska.
This action aims to take advantage of rising traveler interest in places with an outdoor focus.

In conclusion

It's important to notice that there are no new routes being added in the newest statement, even as American is gearing up for summer 2023 with more long-haul flights and resumptions.

This stands in stark contrast to Delta Airlines, all of which have announced significant expansions ahead of the summer travel season, which is anticipated to be extremely busy.

The window of opportunity is passing, but it's still feasible that American may proceed with new routes for next summer.
To boost demand for their new flights, airlines tend to finalize their timetables relatively early.
