American quietly ends the AirPass program after 41 years.

NEWS - 05-12-2022

While most people buy their airline tickets online or through a third-party site, some American Airlines customers have historically used a unique service to arrange their flights.

The AirPass program allowed people and small businesses to reserve fixed-price travel with American in advance.
The application was developed to assist frequent travelers in keeping track of their travel expenses, particularly those who frequently booked last-minute trips or changed their plans.

In actuality, AirPass was a terrific way to earn a tonne of benefits for flying with American without ever boarding a plane.
Depending on how much cash you put in (membership usually needed at least $10,000 in funding), you can get privileges like fast upgrades, preferred and Main Cabin Extra seating, Admirals Club access, and even AAdvantage status.
You received invite-only Concierge Key status if your deposits totaled $50,000 or higher.

Even American has added a number of new benefits to the AirPass program, such as the ability to book AirPass flights on certain partners' aircraft and a free yearly Wi-Fi subscription starting in 2021.

After 41 years, American is now permanently discontinuing the program.
The following was stated by a carrier official in a statement:

There will be no more new contracts, renewals, or fund deposits accepted by the AirPass program as of November 30.
All clients with active contracts will have the option of using their remaining balance or requesting a refund up until the end of their contract period.
Lifetime AirPass customers can expect American to keep its end of the bargain.

Customers who already have an AirPass can spend their remaining balance or ask for a refund, which will be completed in three weeks.
There are no longer any open memberships for sale, and the airline's dedicated website has been changed to reflect the reduction.

For concerned travelers, American has developed a thorough FAQ website.

Why American was chosen for the cut remained unclear.
Maybe the program wasn't drawing in as much business as American had intended, or the airline decided it was no longer financially feasible to continue the promotions given the recent rise in demand and high fares.
