As Terminal A's inauguration is weeks away, Newark Airport has achieved a significant reconstruction milestone.

NEWS - 25-10-2022

The Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is about to undergo a substantial renovation.

The master planner will create a plan to update the Newark airport, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees the airport. This was disclosed on Monday.

Arup, a leading global transportation planner, and SOM will be tasked with carrying out the Port Authority's reconstruction goals.
Numerous aviation projects have been completed by Arup and SOM in the past at important airports like John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and even at Newark, where SOM refurbished Terminal C in 2003.

The companies will evaluate the current airport capacity and create expansion predictions through the 2060s and beyond.
These projections will be used by the corporations to develop a master plan, which is likely to call for a major makeover of the airport.

There aren't many details at the present, but it seems like the Port Authority is committed to transforming Newark's infrastructure significantly.

These improvements are urgently needed because the airport frequently experiences congestion in the airside and landside regions.
That doesn't even take into account the awful passenger experience, which requires a significant revamp.

It is hoped that the decision to appoint a master planner to oversee the Newark redevelopment will assist in bringing the facility into the next generation.
In the same way that LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York has been upgraded, the Port Authority wants to make the New Jersey transit hub into a top-notch airport.

The Port Authority will debut a brand-new Terminal B at LaGuardia in the middle of 2020; the construction recently reached 100% completion earlier this year.
Delta unveiled an updated Terminal C in June, which among other things has a lovely new arrivals and departures hall and new gate sections.

Newark's full rebuilding won't happen for years, but the opening of a brand-new Terminal A in the coming weeks will give travelers a preview of what's to come.

The new terminal, which has been delayed and was initially intended to open this summer, is more than 1 million square feet in size and will eventually house 33 gates.
In the 101-year history of the Port Authority, the new Terminal A is the organization's greatest single investment in New Jersey at $2.7 billion.

Additionally, a combined rental vehicle (ConRac) and parking garage complex is currently in the last phases of development. A partial opening is planned for later this year and a full opening is slated for 2023.
