First commercial space flights are scheduled by Virgin Galactic, and the prices are outrageous.

NEWS - 17-06-2023

The first commercial flight dates for Virgin Galactic, owned by Sir Richard Branson, have been announced.

Between June 27 and June 30, the Galactic 01 inaugural flight is planned to take place. Three members of the Italian air force and one representative from the Italian National Research Council will be among the six-person crew for this first flight. Throughout the trip, the group will study microgravity.

Beginning in August, public passengers will be transported aboard Galactic 02 on subsequent monthly voyages.

With a first set of tickets priced at $200,000 each, Virgin Galactic has sold about 800 over the previous ten years for its trips to the edge of space.

As of right now, each ticket is worth $450,000. Many of the inaugural travelers have been anticipating this day since booking their tickets more than ten years ago. The first space trips' seats have already been reserved.

Michael Colglazier, the CEO of Virgin Galactic, expressed his delight at the launch.

"This next exciting chapter for Virgin Galactic has been driven by innovation, determination, and a commitment to delivering an unparalleled and truly transformative customer experience," the executive said.

Virgin Galactic stands out from rivals like SpaceX and Blue Origin thanks to its distinctive launch strategy. The company's carrier aircraft, White Knight Two, takes off from a runway as opposed to vertical rocket launches.

The rocket-powered spacecraft VSS Unity is released at a height of about 10 miles above the Earth's surface and then ignites its rocket motor to ascend to a height of more than 50 miles. The VSS Unity now travels into the edge of space, giving passengers a weightless and breathtaking perspective of Earth.

Around 90 minutes of the trip will be spent in weightlessness before returning to Earth and landing at Spaceport America in the New Mexico desert.

Branson successfully completed a suborbital flight with Virgin Galactic in 2012.

In conclusion

Virgin Galactic is prepared to realize the aspirations of its customers with the impending launch of its commercial space flights. For more than ten years, they have been waiting patiently to take flight.

The expense of the experience is high, though. For the time being, only a select few will have access to tickets.
