Now accepting reservations for SAS's first electric flight

NEWS - 02-06-2023

On Friday, Scandinavian Airlines will begin taking reservations for its inaugural electric flights.

The open-seat bookings are for trips to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark that are scheduled to depart at some point in 2028. Each flight will have 30 seats available and be flown by an ES-30 aircraft from Heart Aeropace.

AvGeeks and other fans can register to reserve an open seat on the SAS website even if specifics like the dates and destinations of the flights have not yet been announced. The start time for registration is 6 a.m. EDT.

Each flight will have 30 seats available, and tickets will cost 1,946 Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish kroner (about $187), taxes included. The cost honors the year SAS was established.

You'll be grateful to know that you won't have to pay any money until 30 days prior to the flight date, and you won't have to pay any costs for registration, given how far away the departure date is. Nearer the time of travel, the airline will get in touch with selected applicants to provide the dates and routes.

In the event that the flights are a success, SAS will maintain its legacy as an aviation pioneer. It was the first commercial airline to cross the North Pole in 1957. The time it took to fly from Copenhagen to Tokyo was greatly reduced by this accomplishment.

In reference to the history of the airline, Anko van der Werff, president and CEO of SAS, said, "The fact that we can now invite our passengers to the next significant milestone in the future of aviation is a natural continuation of that pioneering spirit and a significant step on our journey toward more sustainable aviation."

A milestone toward SAS's sustainability aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is the 2028 electric flight target.

The planned SAS flights won't be the first to be totally powered by electricity. This honor was won by Aviation Aircraft in 2022 when the company's first entirely electric commuter jet, dubbed Alice, successfully carried two pilots, nine passengers, and a ton of cargo for eight minutes on its inaugural flight.

By 2026, Eviation wants to have its planes available for purchase, with regular takeoffs beginning in 2027.
