Sign up right away for Southwest's new campaign that makes earning elite status simpler.

NEWS - 03-03-2023

You'll be pleased to know that Southwest Rapid Rewards is currently running a new deal if you're hoping to achieve Southwest elite status this year.
By providing bonus tier-qualifying points and qualifying flights on specific activities between March 1 and May 31, this campaign makes attaining Southwest status simpler.

Recall that to qualify for Southwest A-List status, you must fly 25 qualifying flights or accumulate 35,000 tier qualifying points each year.
You must take 50 qualifying flights or accumulate 70,000 tier-qualifying points per calendar year to qualify for Southwest A-List Preferred status.

There are no additional Southwest points that can be earned through this campaign that can be used to purchase flights; rather, this new Southwest incentive is exclusively useful for achieving Southwest's elite status.
What you should know about this promotion is similar to one Southwest ran last year (which was first reported by One Mile at a Time).

Details about this promotion

With this new Southwest program, you may register only once and take advantage of three different methods to increase your tier-qualifying points and flights that count towards achieving A-List or A-List Preferred status.

Following registration for this program, there are three ways to earn extra tier-qualifying points and flights:

    • When you register, book, and fly between March 1 and May 31, you will receive twice as many tier-qualifying points on all eligible flights.

    • Whenever you register, make a reservation and fly between March 1 and May 31, reward travel counts towards elite status. You will specifically accrue tier-qualifying travel and receive 10% of your redeemed Southwest points as tier-qualifying points.

    • From March 1 through May 31, earn 3,000 bonus tier-qualifying points for every $5,000 you spend with any Rapid Rewards credit card.

The bonus tier-qualifying points from these three incentives, according to Southwest, will post prior to June 30. However, the promotion's terms and conditions offer further instructions:

    • Within 72 hours of your flight, double-tier-qualifying points from that flight should show up in your account.

    • For award flights, the flight segment credit should appear on your account within 10 days of your departure.

    • Four weeks after the campaign has ended, the bonus tier-qualifying points from your credit card purchases should appear in your account.

Please take note that you must register for the offer, book, and fly between March 1 and May 31 to qualify for the first two bonus-earning ways.
So, the only new flights you book after signing up for this deal will be eligible.

Finally, neither the Southwest Companion Pass nor the Companion Pass qualification points are mentioned in the campaign.
So, I anticipate that the additional tier-qualifying points you can earn through this campaign won't qualify you for Companion Passes.

How to sign up for Southwest promotional offers

Visit Southwest's website to see if you qualify for this promotion and if it sounds worthwhile (and register if so). Log in to your Southwest account and visit the homepage of your account to find the promotion. On the left side of the page, scroll down and look in the "My promotions" section.

The promotion that says "Register once for more chances to earn towards A-List or A-List Preferred status" may be displayed to you. To find out more about the promotion, click "Register". The "Register now" button must still be clicked in order to participate in the campaign.

In conclusion

Check to see if you qualify for this deal if you want to achieve or regain Southwest Airlines' elite status this year (and register if so). After registering, think about purchasing fresh tickets for travel during the campaign.

Similarly, you might wish to use your Southwest credit card more frequently during the offer in order to earn threshold bonuses in addition to the tier-qualifying points you already receive for your purchases. Look at the available Southwest card offers to choose the finest card if you want to add a new Southwest credit card to your wallet.
