Skynest sleep pods for economy passengers are formally launched by Air New Zealand.

NEWS - 04-07-2022

Air New Zealand stated on Wednesday that it would proceed with sleep pods for economy-class customers in order to make it simpler for them to get some rest.

Beginning in 2024, the airline will begin delivering its cutting-edge Skynest product on its newest series of 787-9 Dreamliners.
The invention, which was initially unveiled weeks before the COVID-19 epidemic brought down air traffic in 2020, will include six sleep pods that economy-class passengers may install on to their usual seats for an additional cost.

The Skynest has two rows of three bunk beds placed in a V-shape with the outside facing out.
There are still many specifics to be revealed regarding the product, such as which routes will offer the Skynest initially and how much it will cost.
A Skynest bed may be purchased in blocks of time, with flight attendants refilling the area mid-flight, or Air New Zealand may sell access to one for the duration of the flight (except taxi, departure, and landing).

The Skynest is only Air New Zealand's most recent attempt to aid its economy-class travelers in getting some shut-eye.
The airline will keep offering its well-liked Skycouch product, which consists of three economy-class seats that can be joined together to form a bed.

On Wednesday, Air New Zealand also publicly unveiled the specifics of its new business-class offering.
In a file with American regulators in March, preliminary information about that two-tiered offering leaked, but more is now known.

There will be space for a dining companion in the airline's Business Premier Luxe suite, which has a sliding door.
Air New Zealand's 787-9 aircraft will have four or eight of the elevated business-class seats, depending on the arrangement.

The new Business Premier seat offered by the airline has a 1-2-1 layout.
These seats will be located in either 42 or 22 of Air New Zealand's 787-9 aircraft.

Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran stated in a statement that getting enough sleep is crucial due to the airline's frequent ultra-long-haul flights.
In September, Air New Zealand will launch a new ultra-long-haul service from Auckland (AKL) to New York (JFK).
Houston (IAH) flights will restart next month, while Chicago (ORD) flights will resume in October.

Because of our geographic location, New Zealand is in a unique position to pioneer the ultra-long-haul travel experience, according to Foran.
"Since we understand how crucial it is for our customers to arrive well-rested, we have focused exclusively on sleep, comfort, and well being.
They want to get started right away, whether they are going directly to a conference or their first vacation location.
