Spirit adds five new nonstop routes to its Boston network.

NEWS - 26-04-2023

Boston is where Spirit Airlines is growing.

This summer, the airline said it would launch five additional daily routes out of Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). Travelers will now have a very cheap choice for flights to Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, and Phoenix thanks to this. Spirit will operate a total of 14 nonstop itineraries out of Boston after adding the five new destinations.

On routes to those competitors' major hubs, Spirit will compete with Boston's busiest airlines, including JetBlue, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines.

American Airlines has large hubs at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), whereas United Airlines has a big hub at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). In addition to serving as a hub for each of the "Big Three" airlines—American, Delta, and United—Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) also serves as a target city for JetBlue.

Fares frequently skew higher on some routes with little competition in hubs where one carrier dominates, as American in Charlotte and United in Houston. However, considering that BOS has become the focal point of a turf battle between JetBlue (and Northeast Alliance partner American) and Delta for dominance, Spirit's routes out of Boston may be worth keeping an eye on.

With Boston, though, Spirit's summer-long growth drive is far from over. The airline declared in February that it would start running flights on June 7 from California's Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and San Diego International Airport (SAN).

Nevertheless, Spirit seized the chance to promote the additional competition it would bring to the biggest city in New England.

Spirit's vice president of network planning, John Kirby, said in a statement: "It's exciting to grow our service in Boston and provide new nonstop options to a variety of popular destinations across the country."

The dates that Spirit will launch these new routes are listed below:

    • Starting on June 7, BOS to CLT.

    • Starting on June 7, BOS to DFW.

    • Starting on August 9, BOS to IAH.

    • Starting on July 5, BOS to LAX.
