The Blue Cash Everyday Card raises earning rates and introduces new monthly credits.

NEWS - 14-07-2022

Monthly bonuses and advantages are still being added to American Express's credit card range.
The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express, which now features a better earning structure and two new monthly credits that you may use, is the newest card to be added to our list.

But most crucially, the card's $0 annual cost will remain unchanged when these improvements are implemented (see rates and fees).

Whether you're considering applying for the card or are an existing cardholder, here is everything you need to know about the updated Blue Cash Everyday Card.

Overview of Blue Cash Everyday changes

Among credit cards that offer cash back, American Express' Blue Cash Everyday Card has long been a reliable option.
Thanks to an increased earning structure and the addition of two monthly credits to its list of cardholder incentives, it is now even more alluring.

The two largest adjustments are raising the earning rate at American petrol stations from 2 percent to 3 percent and introducing a 3 percent cash-back category for online purchases made at American shops.
Keep in mind that each of these earning rates apply only to the first $6,000 of that category's annual spending; after that, the earning rate is 1 percent cash back.
Reward dollars that can be exchanged for statement credits are given as cash back.

The monthly credits are a new addition to the benefits for cardholders.
By using your Blue Cash Everyday Card to pay for your Home Chef subscription, a meal-kit service, you can get $15 in monthly credits.

For individuals who don't spend a lot but still want to use their rewards, reducing the minimum redemption amount is a good adjustment as well.

By using the Blue Cash Everyday Card to pay for a subscription to the Disney Bundle, cardholders can also get $7 in monthly credits.
This includes Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu.

Welcome offer

After making $2,000 in purchases throughout the first six months of card membership, new Blue Cash Everyday Card applicants can receive a $200 bill credit.
In addition to the cash back you'll receive based on whatever categories your spending fits into, this equates to a 10% return on your expenditures.

Assessing the modifications

Gaining benefits from your card without paying an additional annual fee (or, in this case, beginning to charge one) is always appreciated.
But do the cardholders receive any net benefits from these changes?

If you use the Blue Cash Everyday Card at petrol stations, you'll be pleased to learn that the first $6,000 you spend in this area each year will result in an additional 1% cash back.

However, this is the top cash-back credit card in this category when the 3 percent earning rate for online shopping is added.
Since the majority of cardholders probably already spend online year-round, earning an extra 2% (on up to $6,000 in purchases) is a significant benefit.

For both new and existing cardholders, the monthly credits could not have much of an impact.
Receiving $15 in credits each month is only advantageous if you are already paying for this service and are content to save money since the lowest Home Chef plan starts at $49.95 per week.

If you decide to save money by selecting the Hulu option with advertising, the Disney Bundle will cost you an additional $13.99.
Therefore, $7 a month in credits won't be enough to pay the bill.
There are other methods to save money on your streaming services, though it's wonderful to have if you're already paying for this service.

Other benefits for cardholders

The Blue Cash Everyday Card from Amex is similar to most no-annual-fee cash-back credit cards in that it doesn't provide many perks.
The card does, however, come with the following benefits:

    • 15 months after the account's establishment, you can obtain a 0% introductory annual percentage rate on purchases and balance transfers (see rates and fees).
Your variable APR will range from 15.49% to 25.49% after the introductory APR period, depending on your creditworthiness and other circumstances (see rates and fees).

    • Secondary loss and damage insurance for car rentals:
When you pay for the entire rental with your card and opt out of the collision damage waiver at the rental counter, you will receive supplementary coverage for damage or theft to a rented automobile.
However, some vehicles and rental locations are not covered by this guarantee.
      (Amex Assurance Company underwrites.
American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. provides car rental loss or damage coverage.

    • Amex Deals: If you have an American Express card, you'll have access to offers that are specifically designed to help you save money.

    • International Helpline:
You will have 24/7 access to medical, legal, financial, and some emergency coordination and assistance services when you're more than 100 miles from home.
However, you will be liable for any fees imposed by outside service providers.

    • Pay It® Plan It®: You can use Pay It to easily make payments for purchases under $100 made throughout the month if you need more flexibility when paying your credit card account (available through the American Express app).
Additionally, for a set monthly charge, you may utilize Plan It to divide eligible purchases of $100 or more into monthly installments.
There are no prerequisites for signing up or enrolling.
For plans developed within the first 15 months of account opening, there are also no Plan It fees.
Plans will have a cost of up to 1.33 percent of the purchase price following this promotional time, depending on a number of circumstances.

    • American Express Experiences: Amex provides cardholders with access to unique events and presale tickets.

In conclusion

In two ways, the Blue Cash Everyday Card is improving the earning structure.
Additionally, it's adding two monthly statement credits for Home Chef and the Disney Bundle. While these credits won't completely offset the cost, if you already pay for these services, they should still make you pleased.

Meanwhile, the card's improved earning rates translate to better returns on things like gas and online shopping.
And there is no increase in the annual price for any of these additions.
