The first JetBlue flights to Amsterdam are now officially on sale.

NEWS - 26-04-2023

Going Dutch?

The first flights from New York and Boston to Amsterdam were announced by JetBlue on Tuesday, and tickets went on sale right away.

For travelers from the United States, round-trip tickets in the airline's Mint business class begin at $1,899, while tickets in economy begin at $479.

Starting on August 29, there will be daily flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), with the return service beginning the following day.

JFK to AMS: Flight 2288  AMS to JFK: Flight 2289
10 p.m. to 11:35 a.m. (all times local).  1:35 to 4 p.m. (all times local).

The outbound flight departs from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) on September 20 and the return flight departs the following day.

BOS to AMS: Flight 31  AMS to BOS: Flight 32
8 p.m. to 9:35 a.m. (all times local).  11:35 a.m. to 2 p.m. (all times local).

The new flights do not go during the busiest summer travel period, but the route will be available all year.

Earlier this month, JetBlue revealed its third European destination. The news came after a legal dispute that ended with a Dutch court blocking a proposed cap on the number of annual departures and arrivals from Amsterdam. Despite first receiving seasonally allocated temporary takeoff and landing slots, the airline declared it would not launch the service without year-round authorizations.

When the news first broke, the airline simply said that JFK flights would begin "later this summer" and that BOS flights would follow later.

Less than two months have passed since JetBlue announced the launch details for its new flights to Paris, which start on June 29 from JFK. The airline has stated that it also intends to increase service from Boston.

JetBlue will use its Airbus A321LR, which is equipped with the airline's top-of-the-line Mint Suites and Studios, to fly to Amsterdam as it does on all of its transatlantic routes, including New York and Boston to London.

The seating in the 22 Mint Suites is arranged in a 1-1 herringbone pattern, with seats that are slightly tilted toward the aisle. Each suite has a sliding door that fully closes and is completely enclosed. A 17-inch screen, lots of storage, and an integrated wireless phone charger are other amenities included with each suite.

The two Mint Studios in the front of the plane have two windows, even more, extra space, a belted side seat (so you can move about a little or converse with your friend), and a 22-inch screen. In comparison to the Suites, the Studios are more expensive.

Additionally, there are 114 seats in Core Economy, 24 of which have Even More Space and extra legroom. All 114 seats come equipped with movable headrests and what the airline refers to as "shoulder-friendly sidewalls." Core seats feature structured seat pockets, 10.1-inch screens, USB connections, and regular AC power connectors.

JetBlue owned six A321LR aircraft by the end of 2022 and anticipates acquiring a further seven between 2023 and 2024. It has 13 more Airbus A321XLR planes, which have an even longer range, on order. In 2024, deliveries are expected to start.

JetBlue's chief of revenue and planning, Dave Clark, stated during a call with investors on Tuesday that the airline intends to increase its European service when more planes are delivered.

According to Clark, there would be roughly 10 flights per day between London, Paris, and Amsterdam once they start up, which would require the first 11 of the 26 [long-range] aircraft [we have ordered].

The airline intends to start flying on less-obvious routes once those three markets are operating at full capacity, he added.

"I think you can see us being a bit more creative and spread over where we want to go and use some of the features of our aircraft that are unique and fit some markets really well," said Clark.

So, he continued, "More will follow, but for the majority of next year you'll see us stepping up these markets we've already mentioned.
