The gorgeous new terminal in Newark was recently postponed until 2023.

NEWS - 07-12-2022

The magnificent new Terminal A in Newark won't be ready for passengers for a little while.

It was stated on Monday by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is in charge of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), that the opening of the brand-new, $2.7 billion facility will be postponed.

Flyers will be able to enter the 1 million square foot terminal early in the next year instead of on Thursday, Dec. 8 as initially planned.
The facility's fire alarm and security systems' last-minute operational readiness testing were at fault for the delay.

Although the Port Authority's airline partners decided they did not want to launch a new facility just days before what is anticipated to be one of the busiest holiday travel seasons on record, these systems are anticipated to be operational in a matter of days.

Therefore, the Port Authority will postpone the opening until early January 2023 rather than by a week or two.

Director of Corporate Communications Thomas Pietrykoski of the organization said in a statement that "The fire alarm and security systems at Newark's new Terminal A have not yet passed their final tests, despite our goal of starting passenger operations there on December 8th.
These problems should be rectified in the near future.
The Port Authority will unveil the brand-new Terminal A to the public in early January in response to airlines' worries about debuting a brand-new facility during the busiest travel season of the year."

The terminal, which has been under construction since 2018, ushers in a new era for the airport, which has long been rated as among the worst in the nation.
It will be a significant advance over the aging Terminal A, which will close in conjunction with the launch of the new facility, and maybe the biggest passenger-facing enhancement for Newark yet.

The roughly month-long delay shouldn't have much of an impact on operations, especially as no airline had yet to relocate to the new terminal, even though travelers passing through the airport in the next weeks may have been eager to check out the new facilities.

When it debuts, the new Terminal A will be used by Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and United Airlines (on a limited number of flights).
When the second phase of development debuts the following year, Delta Air Lines intends to relocate into the new terminal.

Despite the delay, visitors should be eagerly awaiting the opening of the new facility.
That's because it improves the passenger experience in a variety of ways.

This features a completely redesigned and modern check-in process with centralized security, new roomy gate spaces, and other top-notch facilities like magnificent art exhibits and several power outlets at each seat that will make traveling through Newark much more relaxing and effective.
