This year, Etihad Airways' stopover program is back. From its base at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), it enables tourists to plan lengthy layovers at specific hotels for a discounted price.
The three stopover choices from last year are still available with the national airline of the United Arab Emirates: Best of Abu Dhabi, Stopover on Us, and Transit Connect.
Stopover options
Travelers may reserve stays between two and six nights at 11 four- and five-star hotels for up to 40% less with the Best of Abu Dhabi package.
The most comprehensive plan, it includes a breakfast buffet, 24-hour check-in, and in-room WiFi. Also, it offers a variety of room types in a few select hotels, including the InterContinental Abu Dhabi, the Fairmont Bab al Bahr, and the Andaz Capital Gate.
There may be blackout periods that apply, and all hotels are subject to availability. At least 72 hours must pass after making a reservation to guarantee it.
The second choice, Stopover on Us, enables guests to reserve a complimentary one- or two-night stay in specific three- and four-star hotels.
Choices include the Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, the Ramada by Wyndham Abu Dhabi Downtown, and the Premier Inn sites at AUH and in the heart of Abu Dhabi.
Last but not least, travelers can take advantage of extended layovers, ranging from 10 to 24 hours, by reserving a free one-night stay at the Premier Inn Abu Dhabi International Airport or Premier Inn Abu Dhabi Capital Center.
This applies to passengers flying in economy, business, or first class on approved flights, which do not include all trips through the Middle East.
Bookings for this must be made at least five days before to arrival, but only for departure flights. You might ask for it to be added to your return flight home when that flight is over.
All reservations for stopovers are subject to additional terms and limitations. For travel that ends on December 31, reservations must be made before December 20. The deal isn't eligible for award upgrades, cash-plus-miles promotions, or frequent flyer redemption bookings; reservations must be made by passengers who are at least 21 years old. But, by taking part in the Best of Abu Dhabi program, visitors can earn points, so be sure to include your loyalty number in your reservation upon arrival.

How to book an Etihad Stopover
Book a multicity flight with the airline for an economy, business, or first-class rate, connecting through AUH, to take advantage of one of the stopover programs.
In order to take advantage of the stopover program on your outbound flight, you may, for instance, plan a multicity journey from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), connecting through Abu Dhabi each way.
