There is now a gender-neutral option for TSA PreCheck.

NEWS - 19-07-2022

TSA PreCheck has expanded its gender equality.

The Transportation Security Administration said that its well-known trusted traveler program now gives users the opportunity to select a "X" gender identifier, giving users who don't identify as either male or female a choice for the first time.

A technical upgrade that was first announced in April is now complete.

On weekdays between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. EDT, TSA PreCheck members who wish to use the "X" gender designation can contact the TSA's contact center at 855-347-8371.
No supporting documentation is needed in order to make the modification with the TSA.

TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a statement that the agency "remains committed to ensuring that all travelers are treated with respect and dignity."
"Our commitment to equality and inclusiveness for all people, including the LGBTQI+ community, is reaffirmed by this new TSA PreCheck registration tool."

Airlines for America, the lobbying organization for the airline sector, announced earlier this month that by 2024, all of its members would alter their computer systems to enable customers to select the "X" gender identifier when booking tickets.
Travelers can currently choose between the "X" marker and the "U" (for undisclosed) marker on United Airlines and American Airlines.

The TSA made some further improvements for the transgender community earlier in April.

The organization is modernizing its Advanced Imaging Technology machines, the substantial walk-in scanners used at checkpoints, to stop using a gender-based screening methodology.
For tourists who do activate the AIT equipment, it also promises less-intrusive pat-downs in delicate areas.

In a previous statement, Pekoske claimed that the TSA will act quickly to establish gender-neutral, more safe and effective screening procedures as well as technical changes that would improve security and broaden TSA PreCheck participation.
"These coordinated efforts will significantly improve airport screening and security procedures for everyone."
