This July, British Airways cancels 650 flights from the UK to other European destinations.

NEWS - 04-07-2022

For passengers who intended to connect through London to other European locations this summer, there is terrible news.
British Airways has canceled an additional 650 flights from London to locations throughout Europe that were scheduled to depart next month, a decision that will likely affect more than 100,000 passengers.

The services at Gatwick Airport (LGW) and Heathrow Airport (LHR) will bring the overall number of flights in July to 7,731, which is 652 fewer than the 8,383 originally anticipated.

The flag carrier of the United Kingdom had already scheduled cuts of up to 10% to its summer schedule in case of problems.

In response to our inquiry, a BA representative stated: "We took preventative measures earlier this year to restrict our summer schedule to give customers as much warning as possible about potential changes to their travel arrangements.

“Unfortunately, it has become necessary to make some additional reductions as the entire aviation industry continues to navigate through the toughest time in its history.
Customers are being contacted by us with an apology and an opportunity to   re-book or give them a full refund.”

Flights to popular Dutch capital Amsterdam, popular Greek capital Athens, Barcelona, Malaga, and Palma in Spain, and Faro in Portugal will be among the most impacted routes.

With the threat of strikes and the stress of traveling with BA, July is shaping up to be a challenging month.
Last month, members of the Unite and GMB unions decisively voted in favour of going on strike, and walkouts by 700 or so BA check-in and ground personnel at Heathrow are presently anticipated to take place in late July or early August.

There have been no dates revealed as of yet, however voting closed in late June.
Naturally, if the conflict between BA and the employees is settled, which is mostly centered on a widespread pay cut of 10% that unions claim has not yet been restored, any planned strikes could be put an end to.

These unexpected morning cancellations for BA, Aer Lingus, Air France, American Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, and Virgin Atlantic services, affecting an estimated 4,500 passengers, occurred on the same day (June 30) when Heathrow requested airlines cut 30 flights.
